As the Director and founder of Southern Stars Therapy Services, I bring a wealth of experience and a diverse skill set to the field of speech therapy. My Australian journey began as a community speech therapist and resulted in my promotion to team leader and advanced speech therapist. Working in the Australian disability sector, I honed my leadership skills and developed a deep understanding of the needs within the community. Embracing Australia as my new home since December 2020, I've navigated the challenges of relocation, and have found a profound appreciation for the vibrant life in Perth.
My background in acute hospital work, particularly with ICU and general ward patients, has provided me with a unique perspective on the intersection of medical and community aspects of speech therapy. This experience was further enriched by my role in conducting video swallow studies and collaborating with an allied health care team to support the community/ healthcare team in providing seamless care to people across sectors.
As an advocate for early intervention, my passion was cemented while pursuing a master's degree in early childhood Intervention, specialising in Paediatric Audiology. This built upon my dual undergraduate degree in Speech Therapy and Audiology from South Africa, an honours qualification that, although I no longer practice Audiology, remains a cornerstone of my clinical expertise.
My commitment to professional growth is evidenced by numerous additional qualifications and certifications that complement my university education. Each day, I draw upon this extensive knowledge to provide care and support to those requiring my services, driven by a belief in the transformative power of connection through communication.
